19-12-01 – 51141, 51174 Telecommunications Specialist/Jail Assistant, Police:  *** COMPLETION AND SUBMISSION OF THE POLICE APPLICATION, COVER LETTER, AND RESUME REQUIRED*** The Barnstable Police Department has openings for two (2) Civilian Telecommunications Specialist/Jail Assistant (Police Dispatcher) to commence on or about early 2020.  The police department is the primary communications center in the Town, all 911 emergency calls for police, fire, or medical are directed there, as well as non-emergency calls.  Telecommunicators are responsible for answering telephone calls and sending response personnel to the scene.  Also serves as a department receptionist to assist visitors.  Jail assistants monitor all detainees who are held in the holding facility of the police station.  Work is performed in a fast paced and stressful environment.  Requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal with all demographics.  Telecommunicators work 8-hour shifts, 40 hours per week, 4 days on and 2 consecutive days off.  Shift coverage is 24/7, including weekends and holidays; scheduling is at the discretion of the department.  Must be able to work all shifts.  High school diploma or equivalent is required.  Must be at least 18 years of age.  Experience in a position involving extensive work with the public (customer service, etc.) or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Moderate experience with computers is preferred.  Must be able to successfully pass a fingerprint-based criminal records check, background investigation, psychological screening, physical, and drug screening prior to hire. Position may be subject to random drug testing.  Must be able to adhere to the policies and procedures of the police department and complete duties as directed.  Must be able to adhere to the personal and professional standards set forth in the Civilian Code of Ethics; be trustworthy; and respectful of the police department and officers.  CPR, AED, and First Aid trained or have the ability to become trained.  Commonwealth of Massachusetts 911 Telecommunicator certified, CJIS certified, EMD certified, and suicide prevention trained; otherwise must become certified/trained in these areas within six months of hire.  $1,041.54 weekly + benefits.  Closes 12/23/19.
