Seasonal Community Service Officer Position
The Barnstable Police Department has openings for ten (10) civilian Seasonal Community Service Officers (CSOs) to commence on or about June 3, 2019.
CSOs are non-sworn, unarmed individuals who perform a variety of non-critical public safety duties in support of police operations, specifically in the Main Street, Hyannis business district area. CSOs work out of the Hyannis Station assigned to foot patrol, walking in pairs. CSOs patrol the area on foot observing for criminal activity and suspicious behavior, safety hazards, and individuals needing assistance. Upon observing suspicious activity, CSOs respond according to training, to include requesting sworn officers or medical response and standing by until arrival.
CSOs also assist the Community Impact Unit in its work with target populations, and provide First Aid, to include CPR, AED, and Narcan to individuals needing assistance as necessary and appropriate. CSOs perform various other law enforcement duties of a non-emergency nature as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:Applicants must be at least 18 years, be a high school graduate or obtained a GED, have a valid driver's license, be certified in CPR and basic First Aid or have the ability to be, and pass the police background investigation.
