BARNSTABLE POLICE DEPARTMENT REQUEST FOR LATERAL TRANSFER CANDIDATES

The Barnstable Police Department is currently accepting applications for lateral transfers to fill civil service vacancies. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must have successfully completed a full-time MPTC approved police academy, have a minimum of two years full- time law enforcement experience and currently be employed with a civil service police department. We are seeking highly motivated officers who possess solid problem solving abilities, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to excellence.

The Barnstable Police Department currently employs 118 sworn officers, with approximately 14 civilian employees and 14 civilian dispatchers. It is the largest police department on Cape Cod. The Department serves the Town of Barnstable which covers 76.3 miles including the villages of Barnstable, Centerville, Cotuit, Hyannis, Marstons Mills, Osterville, and West Barnstable. The Department utilizes a strong patrol force along with a variety of specialty units and programs to address the complex demands of this socially and economically diverse community. The Barnstable Police Department has numerous specialty positions including Community Impact Unit, Detectives, K-9 officers, SWAT, Prosecution, and many more.

Barnstable is considered the hub of Cape Cod with the largest healthcare facilities, retail shopping centers, and major transportation operations including a regional airport, two ferry terminals, a bus depot, and train station. The year-round population of 45,000 more than doubles in the summer months as seasonal residents and tourists enjoy the beaches, shops, and restaurants in the mid-Cape area.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range: $64,530.77 – $77,120.25. Tuition incentive pay increases base salary as much as 10% – 25% based on a qualifying degree. Adjusted salary range with a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice is currently $80,663.46 – $94,400.31 not including other potential pay increases such as senior and master patrol officer pay.
Additional benefits include 4 weeks of paid vacation to start (holidays included), tuition reimbursement, 5 personal days, longevity pay after 5 years, sick time, and physical fitness incentive days off (4 per year).
Health insurance premiums are covered at a 50/50 split with the Town with several weeks at no cost.
