April is Autism Awareness Month
April is Autism Awareness Month, and April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day. In recognition of Autism Awareness, Barnstable Police Officers are authorized to wear our new Autism Awareness Patch on their duty uniform for the month of April.
Originally we were going to offer the patches for sale to the public. $10 for the regular uniform size and $5 for the mini-patch, but COVID-19, social distancing, and stay at home advisories had other ideas.
So, we are going to try it anyway. If you would like to purchase a BPD Autism Awareness Patch, please send a check made payable to the Barnstable Police Association with “Autism Patch” on the memo line. $10 for the full size patch and $5 for the mini-patch. Please include a note with how many and what kind if you want more than one type.
Include a self addressed/self stamped envelope with your request so we can mail the patches back to you. Our address is:
Barnstable Police Department
PO BOX B
Hyannis, MA 02601
ATTN: Autism Patch
We will be working with the Kennedy-Donovan Center (KDC) to distribute funds raised locally.
We also took delivery of our new Autism Awareness seatbelt covers. They are pictured below with our new patches. If you would like one, send us a note through the mail and include an envelope for us to get it back to you. The seatbelt covers are free and are meant to help raise awareness if you get pulled over, or might be in an accident.
If you have any questions about the seatbelt covers, or patches, please call 508-778-3805 Monday – Friday 8:30 am to 3:30pm and we will get back to you
Hopefully the situation will improve soon and we will be able to hand these out in person at community events when we can all get back together again.
Until then, social distance…social distance…social distance, wash hands, and stay healthy!
