Emergency vehicles at Gateway Airport

We will be holding a Full-Scale Emergency Exercise today (Thursday September 26, 2024) at the Cape Cod Gate Way airport beginning at 5 PM. There will be increased activity starting at 2:00 PM until the debriefing ends around 10:00 PM. This is a mock accident designed to test and practice our emergency preparedness in the event of an aviation-related incident. Hundreds of individuals will be participating in the drill, including volunteers serving as mock patients, first responders and law enforcement teams. In compliance with the FDA, the exercise will include a simulated aircraft incident where all airport staff and emergency response agencies will respond to the scene as if it was an actual emergency. You might see volunteers acting as victims, smoke from controlled fires, light and sirens on emergency vehicles, possible transports to Cape Cod Hospital, and the use of airplanes.

This is a critically important exercise for continually improving our community readiness and public safety, but please note that this is only a drill. The airport is open and all flights will operate as scheduled.
