Why Join BPD?

The Barnstable Police Department currently employs 120 sworn officers, with approximately 14 civilian employees and 14 civilian dispatchers. It is the largest police department on Cape Cod. The Department serves the Town of Barnstable which covers 76.3 miles including the villages of Barnstable, Centerville, Cotuit, Hyannis, Marstons Mills, Osterville, and West Barnstable. The Department utilizes a strong patrol force along with a variety of specialty units and programs to address the complex demands of this socially and economically diverse community. Barnstable is considered the hub of Cape Cod with the largest healthcare facilities, retail shopping centers, and major transportation operations including a regional airport, two ferry terminals, a bus depot, and train station. The year-round population of 45,000 more than doubles in the summer months as seasonal residents and tourists enjoy the beaches, shops, and restaurants in the mid-Cape area.

Benefits

Officers are paid bi-weekly, based on a 40-hour work week.  Pay is determined by a negotiated annual contract between the Town of Barnstable and the collective bargaining representation, of the Massachusetts Coalition of Police Local 395.  Sworn Officers are paid a salary based on their rank and their pay step.
