Recruiter Sgt. Corey Frederickson
Sgt. Frederickson was born and raised in the town of Barnstable and is a 2007 Barnstable High School graduate. Sgt. Frederickson attended college at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University before transferring to Roger Williams University where he graduated in 2011. After graduating college, he decided to follow his father and grandfather’s footsteps by becoming a police officer.
Sgt. Frederickson was hired by the Barnstable Police Department in 2013 and attended the 56th Recruit Officer’s Course at the Plymouth Police Academy where he was a squad leader. He quickly became heavily involved with the Police Department and did not miss taking advantage of the specialty opportunities the department has to offer. As a patrol officer, Sgt. Frederickson was a Field Training Officer, Sexual Assault Investigator, Mountain Bike Officer, member of the gym committee and Peer Support Team member. In 2017, Sgt. Frederickson applied for and was selected as a SWAT operator for the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team. In 2019 Sgt. Frederickson was selected to the Personnel Selection Unit which is responsible for background checks and recommendation of hiring new police officers.
In 2020, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant; and is currently the department’s Training Unit Supervisor. He is a Certified Trainer in Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events through the ALERRT program which teaches civilians how to respond to active attack events, a Certified Taser Instructor, Distraction Device Instructor, and is an Active Attack Incident Response instructor. In addition to his duties as the departments training supervisor, Sgt. Frederickson is currently the Assistant Team Commander of the regional SWAT team. Sgt. Frederickson is also heavily involved with the Municipal Police Training Committee as a Physical Training Instructor and Staff Instructor for the local Police Academy.
He has also been involved with both the departments Unions. He was the Vice President of the Patrol Officers Union prior to his promotion and is currently a member of the Superior Officers Union Bargaining Committee.
Sgt. Frederickson is the recipient of two lifesaving awards as well as a Meritorious Conduct Award. His additional education includes a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from UMass Lowell and a graduate of the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Series.
Since 2016 he has been a member of the Cape and Islands Big Brothers Big Sisters Leadership council and has promoted the Bigs in Blue program throughout the region. He also helped start the Departments Police Explorers Program which he is still active with.
Sgt. Frederickson believes that the selection of suitable candidates is critical to the department’s goals. He leads by example and mentors new police officers through training and accountability.
