PRESS RELEASE
3/6/24 – Update 12:30 P.M.
At approximately 7:41 a.m. on Wednesday March 6, 2024, the Barnstable Police Department was called to a home on St. Francis Circle in Hyannis regarding an individual holding a person at knife point. The caller then advised dispatch that the occupants were able to leave the residence; however, the suspect remained inside the home.
Barnstable Police Patrol units arrived on scene and were able to immediately contain the suspect inside his home.
The Cape Cod Regional SWAT Team was called to the scene and took over command of the incident.
Initially, a shelter in place was sent out for a one-mile radius from the incident location, and homes in the immediate vicinity were evacuated by the police department for emergency purposes.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., local school administrators were notified by the Barnstable Chief of Police that there was no danger to any students attending nearby schools due to the fact that the suspect was contained to his home.
Currently, negotiations with the suspect are ongoing, with the hope of a peaceful resolution in the near future.
