Town of Yarmouth Press Release
The Town of Yarmouth will be conducting a full-scale oil spill response training exercise in Yarmouth on September 19, 2024. There will be pre-positioned oil spill response trailers in Barnstable and Yarmouth. The event will culminate in a simulated oil spill drill in Lewis Bay, where response teams will deploy booms to contain the simulated spill.
This exercise is part of MassDEP’s Marine Oil Spill Prevention and Response Program. Training participants will include personnel from MassDEP, Yarmouth Division of Natural Resources / Harbormaster, Barnstable and Yarmouth Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard sector SENE, Hyannis Fire Department, Nuka Research & Planning Group, and Moran Environmental Recovery. The training will focus on demonstrating GRS tactics, the Incident Command System (ICS), and multi-agency communication for effective response during the critical first 24-48 hours of an oil spill.
