Welcome to the Barnstable Police Department’s website and thank you for visiting. We hope this website will provide you with information on how the Department works, its outstanding personnel and a number of the community-based programs we are involved in.

The Barnstable Police Department has always been committed to serving our community, providing the best possible service through care and compassion. We strive to creating long lasting relationships with community members.

The Barnstable Police Department is comprised of 120 sworn officers, 26 civilians, and a number of retired
Barnstable Police Officers that serve as SpecialPicture of Chief Jean Challies police Officers. The Town of Barnstable has on average 40,532 residents, during the summer months the population can triple. Barnstable is the largest town on Cape Cod, and is a commercial and transportation hub for the region.

Barnstable is made up of seven villages, including Centerville, Cotuit, Hyannis, Marstons Mills, Osterville, and West Barnstable. Hyannis is the largest village and the central business district of Barnstable County.

As the Chief of Police, it is my honor to serve in the Town of Barnstable alongside some of the greatest officers and dedicated employees. The dedication of our officers will display their efforts to follow the best practices in law enforcement to ensure that our community is receiving the absolute best service.
